What Does It Mean to “Learn”?

Most students probably think studying is hard and boring.
Have you ever wondered why you have to study things now that you might never use in the future?

It’s true that much of what you study today may not directly help you later in life.
However, whenever you study, you are always training your ability to memorize and think.
These skills are incredibly important, no matter what path you choose in life.
And above all, learning leads to expanding the world around you.

Do you know Harry Potter? In the story, a school of magic called Hogwarts appears.
On its school crest, the words “Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus” are written in Latin.
Since these words are engraved on the school crest, you might expect them to have a grand and impressive meaning.

But in fact, they mean something quite silly: “Never tickle a sleeping dragon.”
If you had studied Latin, you would be able to catch this kind of small, clever humor.

In this way, learning opens your eyes to a world that was always there
— full of fascinating things you never even noticed before.
The more you learn, the more a beautiful and exciting world opens up before you.
It may be difficult to change the real world itself, but the “world” you see can be changed surprisingly easily.

So why not become a world-changer yourself!
